5 Jewellery Making Courses for Beginners

1.Gemstone & Wire Jewellery Course
Learn how to make beautiful gemstone and wire jewellery in this beginners level course with Jessica Rose. Through the course you will learn how to wrap briolette beads, create wire loops and other shapes in wire to wrap your gemstones, as well as how to incorporate chain into your designs and much more.
2.Make a Silver Ring Course
Learn to make your own silver ring from home in this fun and comprehensive course. Designer jeweller Rosie Sanders will guide you through the whole process from start to finish to make your own wrap-over silver ring.
You start with small sheets of silver, which you then saw in to shape, heat with a small torch, texture and pattern before shaping into the perfect ring to fit any finger size. To finish you will learn all the basics of filing, sanding and polishing your piece to achieve a beautiful shiny silver ring at the end.
This class does require a few more tools and materials than the bead-based classes but is completely achievable to do from home with Rosie's expert, step-by-step advice and support.
There is no soldering covered in this course as it is making a wrap-over ring, which makes it the perfect starting point for anyone new to jewellery making or ready to try working in silver for the first time.
3.Beginners Wax Carving
If you are new to the world of wax carving this is the perfect course for you. Our lovely tutor Sophie Arnott will guide you through the basics of creating a simple wax ring. These are cut from a wax tube.
You will learn to apply your designs to your wax piece, remove excess wax and create a full 3D design of your choosing. Following that, Sophie will show you how to file your wax piece into shape, remove any file marks and sand and refine the piece ready for casting. You will also learn how to create a ring to size and some recommendations on casters to use.
4. Make Silver Metal Clay Charms
In this short course with experienced metal clay artist, Julia Rai, you will learn how to roll-out and texture the silver clay, make moulds to create 3D charms, dry, sand, drill and torch fire your silver clay before polishing them to a beautiful shine. Julia will also introduce you to patinas and using a solution called liver of sulphur to create contrast in your finished pieces.
This class is perfect for beginners wanting to learn the basics of working with silver metal clay and to make some lovely solid silver charms from home.
5. Introduction to Claw Setting
This course is a great introduction into stone setting and using stones in your jewellery designs. Experienced jeweller Stelios Karantonas will guide you through this cabochon pendant project, showing you how to create your claw setting from scratch.
He will show you how to create a seat for your individual cabochon stone, how to solder on wires to create your claws/prongs, how to shape the claws to hold the stone securely and set the stone and finish the piece ready to wear.
