Would you like to help teach the next generation of jewellers?

We are expanding our team of Jewellery Diploma Mentors and Tutors here at Jewellers Academy and we are looking for you!

The roles are part-time, working from home with flexible hours, competitive pay and the chance to be part of an amazing community!

An exciting opportunity is available for advanced jewellers to teach the next generation of budding jewellers through the online Diploma programmes at Jewellers Academy (sister company of the London Jewellery School, based in Hatton Garden). We are looking for a few new ‘mentors’ to join the current team and lead students through the programmes of the Diploma in Silver Jewellery and the Diploma in Fine Jewellery.

Our online Diploma courses are designed for students to work through a project each week at their own pace via our professionally filmed videos.

You can find out more about each Diploma here:

Each student is assigned a mentor - you!

Your role is to work one to one, mentoring and supporting individual jewellers with their bench practice and providing constructive feedback to help them grow. You will also assess and mark their work each term based on our criteria.

This is an online program and our students are all over the world so you will provide this support via Zoom call.

Each student gets one mentoring and one assessment session with you per term. Support outside of this is provided by our admin and Facebook team

About you!:

  • 7+ years bench experience

  • Confident in leading students through the curriculum of either or both programmes

(If you only feel confident in the Year 1 Silver Diploma please still apply as we have vacancies for both)

  • Teaching experience is a bonus but a passion for teaching and passing on skills is essential

  • Punctual, reliable, professional

  • Able to access good quality internet for zoom calls and online mentoring sessions with students

  • UK based is preferable as students send work to mentors for marking

  • Passionate about passing on skills and knowledge and supporting others

  • Team player

You can choose how many students you wish to mentor depending on the time to have available to dedicate to this role. We ask mentors to commit to mentoring their students for a 1-year minimum period which is lovely as you really get the opportunity to help someone grow.

Full training on the role including how to run your mentoring sessions, how to assess the work and provide feedback will be given via Zoom.

What does being a mentor look like?

You will choose how many students you are happy to take on e.g. 20

Each term you will set out your availability to support your students one to one. We are looking for tutors with availability at all times including evenings and weekends so if you do work full time or only have limited availability that’s fine, we will match you with students free at those times. There will be a 4-week window for your students to book in to speak with you.

Your students will book in an appointment with you via calendly (we’ll teach you how to set up your times on this).

Then, when you have an appointment you log in via Zoom and support your individual student. They will usually have questions around their technique so it is good to be at your bench if you can for this so you can demo. This session will cover techniques included in the course and is not a private tuition on other topics.

At the end of every term the students send in their work for marking to our office. You will be sent your student’s parcels from us and we’ll let you know when they’re on the way. You will mark the pieces (full training on this is given). You will then also have a 4 week window to give one to one feedback via Zoom. You then send the student parcels back to us at the office and then our admin team will return them to the students.

As a mentor, you do not need to respond to student questions outside of these booked Zoom times. We have live Q&As each week plus a staffed Facebook group for answering questions that arise in between one to one sessions.

How to Apply:
