Top Tips for Running a Wedding Jewellery Business
The Wedding Jewellery market is a great area to be a part of, there are so many lovely pieces you can create and you get to be a part of someone’s special day. Here are my top tips for your Wedding Jewellery business.
Be Ready for wedding season
Traditionally, this is March - May time. This is when people will be making decisions on what they will be wearing on the big day. This is a great time to be doing fairs and events so you will need your samples made up, ready to show off to your brides!
Price for weddings
Your bride will want to pair her beautiful dress with equally beautiful accessories. Do your research but remember, if you are creating beautiful handmade pieces - these will not be cheap! Don’t try to compete on price with mass produced items. Bespoke pieces are premium pieces and your prices want to reflect this. You can also offer a higher level of customer service to complement this, make sure your bride feels really looked after.
Great Photos are key
This goes for all jewellery! Seeing your pieces, especially pieces like tiaras on a model can help your bride envision her bridal look. You may not be able to afford professional photos straight away, do get in touch with any previous clients and see if they have any photos they can share from the big day. Make sure you credit the photographers.
it’s about the people
Particularly with wedding jewellery, it’s not really about the jewellery - it’s about the people! It’s a big day with lots of emotion and great customer service will go a long way. Great communication will go along way, your bride will have a lot of different people to work with so make it as easy as possible for her.
selling in person
Wedding fairs are a great way to show off your work. I recommend visiting some fairs the year before to get a feel for it, some of them come with a high fee so you want to make sure it’s the right place for you - get an idea of footfall and competition. Keep an eye out for smaller, local fairs too.
Don’t forget the wedding party
The big focus is obviously on what the bride will wear but it’s also nice to offer smaller collections for the rest of the bridal party - the mother of the bride, flower girls or bridesmaids. This might be colour themed to the wedding with different pieces suitable for the different ages and styles of the group.
A Niche Market
By choosing to work in the Wedding Jewellery market, you have already niched down your brand making your message and marketing easier. This is great for using targeted ads to spread the word.
Design favouites
Swarovski crystals and pearls are by far the most popular materials. You may want to play around with colours and styles to fit your brand but these are always best sellers.
Enjoy yourself!
You have a wonderful opportunity to be a part of peoples special day, creating heirloom pieces that will be treasured. Enjoy the process and enjoy your time with your customers.
