Stone Setting Courses for beginner, intermediate and advanced jewellers
If you’d like to grow your skills as a jeweller and learn how to add gemstones to your jewellery designs then there are many different stunning stone setting styles and techniques to choose from.
The easiest stone setting technique, and the one that most jewellers start out with, is the bezel setting or rub over setting which is used for cabochon stones which have a flat back. Once the bezel setting has been mastered, jewellers tend to learn how to create tube and flush settings next, working their way up to more complex settings such as claw, collet and channel settings. If you’re completely unfamiliar with the different settings and what they look like then do take a read of this blog post first.
Below is a list of all of our individual stone setting courses by experience/level, starting with those most suitable for absolute beginners, then the ones suitable for more intermediate level jewellers, continuing all the way up to the more advanced styles and techniques for those already experienced in silversmithing and some stone setting.

The tube setting is similar to a bezel setting in that you rub the wall of the setting over the stone. This type of setting can be used with both facetted (diamond shape) gemstones and cabochons. It is however more typically used with smaller, round diamond-cut gemstones.
The flush setting is also similar to the bezel and tube setting, as the metal is also rubbed over the edges of the stone to secure it.
