With Emily Fletcher
I was made redundant twice by the time I was twenty-four and I knew I needed to go and learn a skill that no one could take away from me
This week on the Jewellers Academy podcast I speak with Emily Fletcher of Emily Lisbeth Jewellery. If you love inspiring stories featuring jewellers making the leap from a full-time J.O.B. to building a jewellery business this one is for you.
I found her take on working for someone else versus working for herself really interesting. As you may know, I quit my degree when I realised that it wasn't for me and that I wanted to just get out there and get started, not just learn the theory. And while I was working as a nanny, I built up my own jewellery business starting from the age of 19 so it's been a long time since I worked for someone else.
It is no longer true that working for someone else is 'safe' and working for yourself is not. A job is there until it's not. Investing in yourself and building your skills is always worth it because wherever you go - you take yourself with you!
In this episode, Emily reflects on the challenges of balancing work and motherhood and the discussion touches on the natural evolution of a jewellery business and the importance of allowing it to grow organically, without excessive comparison to others in the industry.

In this episode of the Jewellers Academy podcast, Jess speaks with Patricia van den Akker from The Design Trust about the importance of managing our energy. We know a lot about managing our time but that’s not the whole story as not all tasks take the same amount of energy for us to complete. In this engaging discussion, Jess and Patricia talk about the importance of self-awareness, acknowledging our stress levels, and finding ways to manage and express emotions as a creative business owner.
